I want to make gel with sand in it and sell it in stores with a label on it that says Hand Sanditizer.
The cleansing power of real sand
In ancient civilizations, people used sand and water for washing needs including dishes, hands, and each other's feet which was a thing to do for your friends back then apparently. And to this very day, the World Health Organization still recommends using sand in situations where soap is not available.
Meanwhile, traditional hand sanitizers use alcohol as the active ingredient. Alcohol is connected with up to 2 million deaths worldwide every year. This should raise serious concerns about hand sanitizer's popularity among families and schools. By contrast, sand is responsible for only about four deaths per year, ALL of them involving much larger amounts of sand than this product will contain.
Potential risks and challenges
Every new product has potential market challenges, and sanditizer is no different. We have conducted this thorough analysis and developed solid marketing strategies to mitigate these risks.
Risk/ Market challenge | How we address this concern |
| Design appealing label, use TikTok influencers to generate demand |
2. Does not kill as many germs as traditional sanitizers | People cannot see or fathom pathogens. If our product removes a decent percentage of germs, can customers even conceive of the difference? |
3. Sand does not evaporate easily or at all, leaving unpleasant residue on the hands. | By the time customers discover that they don't like it, we will already have their money. |
4. Customers may hesitate to buy a new product that is different from what they are used to | The name and labeling should look like traditional hand sanitizing products. This will help reassure customers, or even allow them to switch by accident. Some percentage of "accidental switchers" will be pleasantly surprised and will become loyal customers. |
